Tips for Handling Animals

  • Always wear protective gloves
  • Long sleeve shirts and pants should also be worn
  • Do not bring the animal close to the face or head
  • Do not allow children near the animal or to handle it
  • Keep pets away from the wild animal
  • Try to handle the animal as little as possible to prevent imprinting

Skunk Deodorant Recipe

This can be used if sprayed by a skunk.

  • One (1) quart 3% hydrogen peroxide
    • Can be found at most drug stores in brown bottle
  • One Quarter (ΒΌ) cup baking soda
  • One (1) teaspoon liquid dish or laundry detergent

Only mix in an open container as needed. Do not store!

Other Tips

  • Try to keep the animal in a warm, dark, and quiet environment
    • This will reduce stress and shock for the animal.
    • Flannel works best to wrap an animal in.
    • Do not feed or attempt to administer any type of formula or milk replacer
    • Give only warmed not microwaved Pedialyte or light colored Gatorade with eye dropper.
    • Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator immediately.
